2011 JUNIOR NEWSLETTER  

Welcome to all existing Juniors and any new Juniors who have joined the Club this year. We are looking forward to an exciting season ahead with lots of opportunities for you to get involved in both fun and competitive tennis. You are very welcome to come and enjoy the Club as much as possible.

We are extremely lucky to have 2 brilliant  coaches, Neil Harden and Dave McLean, who are  keen to work with you. Please say hello and make yourself known to them.

Teams

9 teams have been entered in the East of Scotland leagues, starting on 16th April  (based on last year’s membership):

Girls U18, U14, U12          Boys U18, U16,  U14, U12 and U10

We are delighted that this year we are fielding 3 new teams...U12 Girls, U12 Boys(2nd team), U10 mixed...this is a great reflection of the strength of our Junior Membership
 


Many Juniors have been contacted about teams but if you have not I would love to hear from anyone who may like to join a team (don’t be shy … we all have to start somewhere!)

Saturday coaching   - social tennis with informal coaching

These classes are free to members and member’s children. Non-members will pay £5 per hour. 

 Red Ball      2.00-3.00pm

 Orange/Green Ball      3.00-4.00pm.

Green Team players/Yellow Ball   4.00-5.30 pm

Junior Club Afternoons start on Sat 30th April and run until Sat 25th June

JUNIOR TENNIS TEAMS  MATCH PRACTICE

If you are interested in participating in Junior Teams you will be required to attend the following practice:

Boys Match Practice   U10,U12, U14, U16 and U18                  Saturday 19th March 2-4pm

Girls Match Practice   U12, U14, U18                                        Saturday 12th March 2-4pm

League Matches start on Saturday 23 April at 4pm

Juniors must have a British Tennis Membership number to play in league matches - apply online via the LTA link.

 ROAD TO WIMBLEDON       Sun 1st MAY

U14 By invitation only. Can we produce the next star to play at Wimbledon?

Mini  Junior Tournament ( UNDER 10) on 12th June at 1pm. Entries on the day.

FUN TOURNAMENTS          Girls Madhatters Tea Party and Tennis  (10-14 Yrs)   Sun 22nd May

                                         Boys Speed Tournament  (how fast can you serve the ball?)   (10-14Yrs)    Sun 8th May

 

Junior Tournament   U10, U12, U14, U16, U18

Entries to be made from 15th April until 14th May.         .

Junior Finals and Family BBQ on 26th June  at 12 noon.

The Junior Tournament is played during the school summer term and this year Junior Finals Day will be held on Sunday 26th June and play starts at 12pm. Watch out for the entry sheets on the noticeboard from Friday 13th April until Sunday 6th May. Competitions are held at 10 & under,12 & under, 14 & under, 16 & under and 18 & under, for singles, doubles and mixed doubles. The draw will be posted soon after the closing date and it is then up to all players to arrange matches as quickly as possible. Before signing up please ensure that you are available on Finals Day and that you will have enough time to play all of the rounds of each competition that you enter. Under 12s may not enter the U18 competitons.

All members and competitors' supporters are warmly invited to the family barbeque that takes place during Junior Finals Day. Please be prepared to take your turn on the BBQ!

The Young Juniors BIG tennis event is a one-day special open to all juniors under the age of 10 and will be held on Sunday 10th June from 2pm to 3.30pm. There will be lots of fun competitions.
