Welcome to Lomond Park Tennis Club
A very warm welcome to you all, as we are about to embark on what I hope and am sure will be another thoroughly enjoyable and exciting season for 2013. If you have been to the Club recently you will have seen that we now have a freshly sanded and repolished Clubhouse floor and there will be some painting inside the clubhouse and installation of a new cooker in the coming weeks- big thanks to Kate Hardie for organising.
I am also delighted that we have now had new much improved floodlights installed on all our courts and the results are simply terrific..unfortunately people will no longer be able to use poor lighting as an excuse for missing those easy volleys. A big thank you to Kerr Petrie and Richard Arnott who managed and oversaw the whole works.
We have another full programme of Men’s, Ladies and Junior league tennis matches this season with 8 senior teams and 7 junior teams. The senior matches start on Monday 15th April and run for 10 weeks, whilst the Junior programme starts on Saturday 20th April. We are always looking for new and fresh talent to add to our existing “high” quality performance squads so if you are not currently involved with team tennis and wish to do so then please come along to Ladies Tuesday nights or Men’s Monday nights and/or introduce yourself to our team captains, Gail Kinmond and Richard Arnott or Pippa Johnston, our Junior Convener. The Adults and Junior sections of the website also provide more information. Anyone wishing to play team tennis at either Junior or Senior level must be registered with the British Tennis (and similarly anyone who wants to enter this year's Wimbledon draw must also be a member of British Tennis. If you are not a member of British Tennis you can become a member for free by joining at http://www.lta.org.uk/Members/Join/ . The very best of luck to all our teams for the forthcoming season.. and remember it is only a game and have fun !!
There are also a wide and varied selection of social tennis events planned throughout the year kicking off with some relaxed social tennis at the Brass Monkeys American Tournament on Sunday 17th March, both seniors and juniors very welcome. Fingers crossed that the weather will be fine and I look forward to seeing lots of you there. I would strongly encourage you all to take a good look at the Calendar Section (Events) of the website, both now and periodically throughout the season, as this gives further details and timings of our planned events programme for this year. However, the events calendar and website will be updated periodically for changes throughout the year so please keep having an occasional browse. Unfortunately the weather does sometimes cause events to be postponed although, unless it is actually raining or the courts are unplayable, we will endeavour to run events as scheduled. If possible we will post a red notice at the top of this page to advise you of any changes, so if things seem doubtful, please check this website just before you set off for the courts. I mentioned at the AGM and in the AGM report that the Club is struggling to get support from members on occasions either to join or help the Committee running events. I would be extremely grateful if you could take a good look at the events diary and if you feel able to offer your help in some capacity for any of these events then please let either Alan Malcolm or any of the Committee members know as we are struggling to support all the events from within the Committee. Your support could be running an event like a 1st Friday session or making or laying out food /doing the BBQ- all help gratefully received.
I am delighted that Adrian Nicklin our wonderful coach, who now has a new addition to his family- congratulations- will continue as the Club's coach. Adrian will be running the "free" Club provided training for our Juniors as well as providing additional coaching to members on a private basis. Adrian will also be running an Easter and Summer holiday training sessions so please apply for these early to avoid disappointment and to support our Club coach. Junior Coaching starts on Sat 27th April and runs for 8 weeks and caters for 6-8, 9-10 and 11-16 year olds. Details of exact timings for each age group can see in the Events calendar.
